Selected Images From Our First Week

The Plinth outside our first night's accomodation prior to setting out.  Leon.

Walking towards the hotel where Tom 'shouted' the gang in 'The Way'

Our first successful destination.  Day One.  Notice the hot dry landscape.

The bridge over Rio Orbigo.  Our hotel on the left in the background.  Hospital de Orbigo

A hot dusty day on the way to Astorga.  Over 35 that day.

One of the many stone crosses that exist along the Camino.  Overlooking Astorga in the background.

Cathedral at Astorga, Gaude designed church alongside on the right.

The sign says it all.

The way just disappears into the distance.  It's a long walk.

And just when you think is has busted you, a little respite.  Amazing how much that bit of shade made a difference.  And still the way disappears into the distance after it.

And then the countryside changes when you hit the hills.

Snow on the mountains still.  The last vestiges of winter hanging on.  Hard to believe it is the dead middle of summer.  Demonstrates the altitude of these peaks, well over 1000 metres, up to 1500 and above.

Check out this joint, population... 1.

High Country, peaks in excess of 1500m.

So many beautiful places you walk through.

El Castillo de Los Templars.  In Ponferrada where we have a day off tomorrow to investigate this fascinating castle.  Built about 1200.

Enjoy.  More soon.
